We are authorised to verify and issue new HIN’s on any recreational boat of any size.

What is a HIN?

It’s a serial number for a boat that allows the boat to be registered and traced. Its exactly the same as a VIN for a car. It’s usually stamped or embossed on the boat by the boat manufacturer, or its engraved or stamped on a plate that is affixed to the boat.

Every boat that is registered in WA after February 2001 must be affixed with either a manufacturers HIN or a Transport WA HIN.

Boats that were built and registered prior to February 2001 weren’t required to have a HIN for registration, but if the registration on a boat without a HIN runs out or if the boat is sold and transferred to a new owner, it requires a HIN to be affixed to the boat or an existing HIN to be verified.

Boats being transferred from interstate are also required to have a verified HIN before being registered in WA.
